[OU] The Guardian's links disappear with opera

I'm using XPSP2 or 3 and Opera as follows:
Version
9.64
Build
10487
Platform
Win32
System
Windows XP
Java
Java not installed
XHTML+Voice
Plug-in not loaded

I don't want to update Opera since it works just fine for all my needs
except at The Guardian's site <http://www.guardian.co.uk/> the links
disappear or more accurately don't appear as links nor work as links
with opera once you pass your cursor over links you don't want to get to
the link you do want.

It's the only site I've found that has this problem.

How do I fix that?

Bruce, each new version of Opera most usually offers improved browsing
security, as well as other features. If for no other reason, you
should update for the security improvements.

My problem is I'm afraid of losing my current settings, passwords,
usernames, urls etc. what files contain these and other settings I need
to copy over and where do I copy them?

And my mail filters? How can I import my mail filters if they don't import
themselves? After the last upgrade to double digits, I had to rebuild my
mail filters. That fact alone held back my usual upgrades for a year (I
finally bit the bullet and just started over from scratch) I like Opera
allot. But this oversite is not typical of the groups efforts, and remains
a sore point still [for me].

The best option would be to do an update install. For an extended security
you should backup the mail folder from you Opera profile. This way you can
return to the older version or restore the folder if something goes wrong.

You can find the path to the mail folder on the following page:

As well as the backing up link Kenneth gave you, the Opera install
wizard gives you a choice whenever you move to a newer version. I
forget the exact wording but one of the two choices states that
current settings will be saved.

Your Opera bookmarks can be quickly saved via File - Import and Export
- Export Opera Bookmarks. You can save (Export) them to a USB stick,
CD, an external hard drive, or your Desktop.

Hi Bruce,

I have never seen this problem with older versions of Opera (I didn't
use to visit that site regularly), but I have done a quick check with
Opera 10.50 and all links look and work OK (tried links at the menu,
links to/in articles and some links in the columns around).

So also I recommend you to upgrade to 10.50.

About the settings: I think you do not need to copy any files, if you
just want to upgrade (though some backup is never a bad idea). I have
upgraded Opera many times just by running installation from newer
package and I have never seen any loss of settings. However, I cannot
confirm that for mail filters, because I never used them in versions
prior to 10.50, though I still can confirm for multiple mail accounts
and messages.

Also, I have heard that Opera Software is releasing 10.51 soon and
there will be many things fixed, so you might want to wait for it (so
you won't get the bad feeling from the faults that came with 10.50,
and it's fact that there arte some, because of quite hurried release
of 10.50, which is said to be because of MS Ballot screen but that's
another story :-D).

Good luck,
Al.

I recommend going to http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/ and
downloading 10.51 RC3. As I write this I am using RC2 (I've only just
dicovered there's a new RC), and it is /much/ better than 10.50,
which very quickly revealed itself as having been released too
quickly. Note that these Release Candidates come with no warnings
about unresolved stuff and 'may not work at all', in other words they
are pretty safe.

Having said that, I did have to rebuild my browser buttons when I
first installed 10.50. Whether that would happen with a new install
of 10.51 RC3 I don't know. My bookmarks are all intact, though. 10.51
really is great to use! (Especially now I have my 5x3 Speed Dial matrix. :-)
